Rap War: Beef Between Migos & 2-G Leaves One Fan Shot Dead

DULUTH, Ga — Police are hoping video of a random shooting at a Gwinnett County hotel will help end a violent war between two rap groups. The shooting happened on June 11 at the Quality Inn near Gwinnett Place Mall.

Police said two men walked up to the party outside one of the hotel rooms and opened fire.

“When they came to the party, they brandished firearms and they began to shoot into the crowd of 30 to 40 people, just aimlessly,” said Gwinnett County Police Investigator Deon Washington.

Paris Brown, 23, who was at the party was shot and killed. Police said Brown was a fan of the rap group Migos, who was hosting the party at the hotel.

Police said the two shooters were members of the rap group 2-G. “There is an ongoing war between affiliates of 2-G and the more popular rap group referred to as the Migos, which is a rap trio that originated in Gwinnett County,” Inv. Washington said.

Police released surveillance video from the hotel that shows the two suspects walking up to the party holding handguns and starting to shoot.

They have identified one of the gunmen as Corey Marzette, 22, and charged him with Aggravated Assault and Murder. Police are still trying to identify the second gunman.

Investigator Washington said 2-G is trying to increase their popularity by competing with Migos, a more popular group, whose songs have been recognized by Drake, a world renowned rap artist and songwriter.

Police said the shooting at the Quality Inn is the culmination of an ongoing battle between the two rap groups. “We have documented incidences of violence between both 2-G and Migos over the past six months or so,” Washington said.

Police say Migos and their fans, who were at the party, have been of little help to the investigation. The only description of the suspects they gave was that one was masked and the other wasn’t.

Police are hoping someone can help them identify the second suspect in the video. They are asking anyone with information about the case to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS.
